Primary Function
Oversees the Refrigeration operations for the shift including troubleshooting and repair of refrigeration equipment to ensure acceptable plant operations; responsible for all refrigeration equipment maintenance; responsible for refrigeration techs' daily responsibilities and ensures that all PM and checks are done in a timely manner.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Has general and preventive maintenance experience in Refrigeration and Food manufacturing.
Oversees Refrigeration technicians as they perform PM's such as inspection and equipment to prevent mechanical or electrical failure and ensures continuous operation of the machinery.
Oversees refrigeration technicians as they receive and implement scheduled work orders.
Repairs machines and related equipment when needed according to maintenance schedule and manufacturer's service manuals or on diagnosis of machines that are malfunctioning.
Resolves equipment malfunctions by evaluating performance breakdowns, identifying the root cause, safely repairing the equipment and taking actions to prevent recurring failures.
Diagnoses and troubleshoots electrical controls and ammonia operating systems.
Trains and leads others in the operation of ammonia refrigeration systems.
Ensures that maintenance employees have the tools, equipment, and resources necessary to perform their responsibilities.
Serves as a liaison between production and the Refrigeration department as well as Maintenance and Refrigeration.
Notifies the planning/parts department when parts that are needed are not present.
Problem solves when critical required parts are not available from the Parts department.
Ensures that the most important work (emergency work orders) and priority work orders are completed on time.
Stays abreast of ammonia refrigeration regulatory compliance, including OSHA, PSM, RMP, and EPA.
Utilizes computer to operate equipment monitoring systems.
Maintains responsibility for administration of accurate equipment maintenance and inspection records.
Responsible for managing change and emergency response regarding refrigeration and ammonia systems.
Conducts ammonia accident investigations.
Serves as essential member of the Safety Management (PSM) program/team including risk management, HAZMAT incident command, emergency response, etc.

Minimum Skill Levels and Work Experience
5 years experience in ammonia refrigeration systems.
Working knowledge of screw and reciprocal compressors, electrical troubleshooting all common types of ammonia central systems and control/alarm systems.
College degree and/or IIAR or RETA certification desired.
Strong mechanical aptitude with emphasis in electrical systems required.
Working knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems, electrical controls and hydraulics.
Ability to read and write to communicate effectively with employees and upper management.
Must have good math and budgeting skills.
Must be able to interpret written instructions, procedural manuals, schematics, drawings and blue prints.
Must be able to effectively train and lead others in the operation of ammonia refrigeration.
Must serve as an essential member of the Safety Management program/team (PSM), risk management, HAZMAT, incident command, emergency response, etc.
Must be physically fit to be on the Hazmat entry team.
Must occasionally lift up to 100 lbs.
Must constantly walk throughout the 150,000 square foot facility.
Must frequently stoop, kneel and crawl.
Frequently uses visual skills to inspect equipment, machinery, and facilities.
Occasionally climbs.
Constantly subjected to extremely wet and cold environments as well as wet and hot environments.

Preferred Skill Levels and Work Experience
Experience in evacuating ammonia in closed loop systems.
Supervision of 5 or more refrigeration techs.
Use of the D7I maintenance tracking system to review the history of maintenance activities, work orders, preventive maintenance, etc.
